In the Delhi Liquor Scam case, The Supreme Court grants interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal.

In the Delhi Excise Scam, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal got interim bail from the Supreme Court today. While granting an interim bail, the Supreme Court observed that the Delhi CM has suffered incarceration of 90 days and it’s conscious that he is an elected member. The Supreme Court had reserved the verdict on May 17.

The interim bail that Arvind Kejriwal got from the SC is in the case that is under ED’s disposal. CBI is also investigating into the same alleged Delhi liquor case. And, on June 26, SBI arrested Kejriwal. Thus, the Delhi CM will have to be in custody until he gets bail in the CBI case.

“The Court observed that in so far as his arrest is concerned, there are certain aspects on the arrest, they said that Mr Kejriwal has undergone a large period of incarceration already and therefore, directed his release and bail immediately in the ED matter.” Said Supreme Court Judge Shadan Farasat as ANI reports.

The ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21 in the Money laundering aspect in the excise policy irregularity by the Delhi Government.

Mr. Kejriwal had challenged his arrest by the ED in the SC as illegal and motivated.

However, rejecting his bail plea on April 9, the Delhi High Court had rejected Kejriwal’s arguments. The Delhi High Court had taken note that Kejriwal had skipped 9 summonses by the ED as an act of non-cooperation. Thus, the arrest was inevitable.

The Supreme Court has referred the plea by Kejriwal on the legality of the arrest to the larger bench.
