Ind-Australia 3rd test,day 5: INDIA WIN THE MELBOURNE TEST, RETAIN THE BORDER-GAVASKAR TROPHY.

India registered a comfortable victory over Australia in Melbourne today to obtain a lead of 2-1 in the 4-test series ahead of the final encounter in Sydney on January 3.

Never had India been in such a position sensing a test series win in Australia in the 71 years. Indian Captain Virat  Kohli says, “We are not going to stop here. This victory will give us more confidence and we will play more positively in Sydney. We want to win the last Test match as well,”

India was to resume the day’s proceeding being placed at just two wickets away from the crucial win in the series while the hosts had a tough task to cover the remaining 141 runs of the 399 or playing out the entire day with very little batting resources remaining.

Pat Cummins had provided stubborn resistance yesterday to drag the match to the fifth day. But it was fresh day today. Indian attackers were fresh. Thus they took only 27 balls after the 5th day’s operation resumed late due to rain to wrap up the two wickets.

Bumrha made Pat Cummins to edge to Cheteswar Pujara at first slip at his overnight score of 61.Ishant Sharma removed Nathan Lyon in his third over as a hook attempt of the later ended in wicket keeper Pant’s glove.

With the win India retains the Border- Gavaskar trophy.

Bumrha for his career best 9 for 93 was adjudged man- of- the –match. Virat Kohli, with the result, matched Saurav Ganguly’s overseas wins of 11.
