Bhubaneswar -Odisha Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Pattnaik said today that they were always ready for election. “If there is early election”, said CM Naveen Pattnaik, “We are ready for it.”

An early-general- election has been in discussions for quite some time now but after Election Commissioner of India (ECI) O P Rawat’s statement on 4th Otober-EC will be ready to hold assembly and general  elections simultaneously, this has become a major talking point.

Assembly election in Odisha will be due in 2019 along with the General election.  Under the present system, parallel elections for the Assembly and Loksabha in Odisha are not constitutionally binding if the central government opts to go to election before time. The Odisha assembly is free to complete its term. In the case of a system of one-country-one-election develops then there will be simultaneous elections for the Assembly and Loksabha in Odisha when it comes.

In 2004 Naveen Pattnaik had dissolved the 12th assembly premature to go to election with the centre side by side.It was a tactical move then.

Some imagine Modi Government may declare an early election to catch its enemy BJD in the wrong foot in Odisha.

But BJD is always ready for election, say its leasers.

BJD spokesman and MP Pratap Deb said, we mean it that we are ready for election. “We expect a first division with distinction result in the election.”

Leader of Opposition Party in the Assembly Narasingh Mishra of Congress said that to hold assembly and parliament election at the same time amendment in the parliament is needed. And added “if all states agree to dissolve their respective assemblies and hold election along with the parliament poll, no one can stop it.”
