Bhubaneswar (20 Oct):  Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the Piped Natural Gas (PNG) service in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

This is the first service of its kind in Odisha. On Friday when the PNG system was commissioned in Nalco Nagar, Bhubaneswar 255 families in the colony earned the honor to be the firsts to get their kitchen gas through pipe in the state. It will reach 50,000 in next few years, as the government has set target.

 

With the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga, the Flagship programme of the central government, access to fuel gas in Odisha is set to observe a revolution.

The PMUG will supply gas to industries like Sail and will revive the defunct fertiliser plant in Talcher.

By the end of 2019 there will be 769 km of Gas pipeline through 13 districts in Odisha conveying gas to stations for domestic and industrial consumers. This setion of the Jagdishpur-Haladia & Bokaro -Dhamra Natural Gas Pipe line (JHBDPL) in Odisha will claim Rs 4000 crore, stated the Minister in the inauguration function.

As Mr. Pradhan mentioned, there will be 25 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack under City Gas Distribution (CGD) project to cover 45000 vehicles in Bhubaneswar and 18000 vehicles in Cuttack.Works of the stations in Chandrasekharpur, Patia, Khandagiria and Tomando are going on.

In the beginning the CGD projects in Bhubaneswar-Cutack will get Natural Gas from Vijayawada by on- road conveyance till JHBDPL is completed. After the pipe line is completed it will pipe gas to the projects.

At present the CGD and JHDPL works are going on simultaneously.

The Union Minister also said that the Rs. 6000Cr-LNG Terminal at Dhamra in Odisha would facilitate the import of LNG from US, Russia, Australia etc.
