ODISHA GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES SALARY HIKE FOR THE ANGANWADI WORKERS BEFORE THE ELECTIONS.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced salary hike and few more for the Anganwadi workers in Odisha on Saturday as political forces are bracing up for the General elections.

The Anganwadi worker’s organizations have been on a sit-in in Bhubaneswar for the last one and half months demanding a salary hike and government recognition.

As the Chief Minister announced an Anganwadi worker will now draw monthly remuneration at the rate of Rs 7500. It was Rs 6000 previously. Similarly, a Mini Anganwadi worker’s monthly salary has been hiked to Rs 5375 from Rs 4125. AN Anganwadi helper will get Rs3750 per month instead of Rs3000.

The Odisha government has also increased the retirement age of the Anganwadi workers to 62 across the rank and made them entitled to get some money as social- security. An Anganwadi Worker at the time of retirement will get Rs20, 000 while a Mini Anganwadi worker will get Rs15, 000 and an Anganwadi helper will get Rs Rs10, 000.

Government claims about 1.45 lakh Anganwadi workers in Odisha will take the benefit that will cost the state exchequer additional Rs73 crore.

The enhanced money is entirely from the state coffer, claims Odisha Finance Minister Sashi  Bhushan Behera. In the revised salary of an Anganwadi worker, Odisha bears Rs4800 and the Center’s contribution in it is Rs 2700. The state and Center contribute Rs 3,275 and Rs2100 respectively in the salary of a Mini Anganwadi worker. And this is Rs2, 400 and Rs 1350 of Odisha and Center respectively in the salary of Anganwadi helper.

Naveen government had launched the free-LED- bulb scheme just a day before, besides the big financial assistance scheme for the farmers, called KALIA and the one for the Women Self Help Groups (SHG).
