Helmet for the pillion riders has been made compulsory in Odisha as a move to widen the safety cover. Regulation of compulsory helmet for the rider is alredy existing in the state.
Chief Secretrary AP Padhi made this announcement on Thursday in the State Secreteriate along with other measures. He said that police stations across the state can now exercise MVI power of taking action against the rule violation.
Of the casualities in road accidents in the state, motor cyclists claim 44 percent, a figure which is not encouraging.The state government found it as the basis to come up with the regulation of compulsory helmet for the pillion rider.
District administrations have been asked to be strict to enforce the regulatoins against using mobile phone while driving, drunken driving, driving without helmet or seat belt. Their achievements would be acknowledged.
