Odisha Minister and Rajya Sabha Member Kalaptaru Das died today at 1.30 PM in the All India Medical Science AIMS Hospital New Delhi. He had been rushed to AIMS the on Friday in critical condition where he gave in. The BJD strong man was resisting the deadly cancer for the last one year. He was 67.
Born in 1948 Ka;pataru Das made his debut representation in Odisha legislative assembly in 1995 from Dharmasala and continued to represent the assembly constituency for three more terms in a row till he went to the Rajya Sabha in 2014. Kalpataru Das made it to politics in 1990 as a member of Janata Dal in Jajpur district and was one of the founder members of Biju Janata Dal (BJD). In 2012 he became the Panchayat raj and Parliament affairs minister in the Nabin Pattnaik government. It was the time in his political career when he was enjoying a great deal of political importance in the party affairs.
“Odisha lost a great political leader” said Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik in his condolence message. “As a senior and experienced leader he had a big contribution in strengthening the party”
