Election 2019: BJD exodus/ Former Minister Raghunath Mohanty quits BJD.

Another senior leader quit BJD today. Raghunath Mohanty, the BJD vice president who had held important portfolios in the Naveen’s government and party, tendered his resignation from BJD. He had resigned from the post of chairman of Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation on Saturday.

 

An annoyed Mr. Mohanty alleged that BJD, formed on the ideologies of Late Biju Babu, has deviated from its founding principles. “This has hurt the members who had founded the party,” he said.

 

Arjun Sethi, the sitting MP from Bhadrak, left BJD yesterday, and subsequently, joined BJP. Earlier this week, two another incumbent parliamentarians-Balabhadra Majhi (Nabarangpur) and Pratyusha Rajeswari Devi (Kandhamal), of BJD have also left the party over ticket allocation issue and are in BJP now. Three sitting legislators and many former legislators have also crossed over to BJP from BJD.

 

Mr.Mohanty was imagined to be aspiring ticket for Basta assembly constituency. He had represented the constituency 5 terms in a row since 1990 till he fell from Naveen’s grace in 2013 following a controversy in his family.

 

Mr. Moahanty has not disclosed his future course of politics, but BJP has indicated its willingness to accept him in its fold.

 

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “Any good people who come to join BJP and accept Narendra Modi’s leadership, we welcome them. Everyone will incorporate in the wind of change, blowing in Odisha.”
