
Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: Farmers in Odisha may expect to get compensation in a week for their loss of crop by drought and pest attack. Government of Odisha has begun the due process for this. Collectors of the concerned districts have been directed to complete the process within seven days.
On the disbursal of input subsidy to the affected farmers Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi said that the process of disbursal of input subsidy to the deserving farmers as per the guideline has begun. This would be completed within seven days, said the SRC as he added that the concerned district collectors will submit daily report of the progress.
The farmers will get compensation in the form of input subsidy at the rate of Rs 6800 per hectar for rain fed land and Rs13500 for irrigated land. The compensation amount would be credited direct in the farmers’ account in the bank or post office, informed the SRC.
Around 70 blocks in 14 districts of Odisha has been identified as drought affected. The state government on October 28 has sanctioned Rs216.22 crore as input- subsidy for the farmers in these areas.
The amount would be drawn from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).
The SRC also mentioned that Odisha government want hike in the agricultural input- subsidy and has urged the centre to amend the NDRF/SDRF norms to this affect. Odisha seeks 50 percent growth in the agricultural input- subsidy.
