CRIME: COURT AWARDS DEATH SENTENCE UNDER POCSO IN THE GRUESOME KANGULA RAPE AND MURDER CASE.

One Anama Dehury for raping and killing a minor girl received the death penalty, as the lower court in Angul pronounced the sentence today.

In a fast-track trial under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO), the Angul Additional District and Session Judge Court concluded the case in just six months. A death sentence under POCSO is the first of a kind in Angul and second in Odisha.

On January 20 this year, Anama (22) dragged a minor girl of 12 behind a bush, and there, he raped the girl; killed her with a stone; then threw the body into a stream and fled.

The gruesome incident that rocked the state then had taken place in Kangula village in Angul district.  The girl was on her way to his father’s shop with lunch box when she became prey. The Angul Police arrested him from Kolkota and ran the case against the beast.

As per reports, the court awarded death sentence to Anam Dehury for killing the minor girl and life imprisonment for raping the minor girl.  The Court also awarded seven years of imprisonment to him for destroying evidence.

People term it as an exemplary verdict from the court in the direction providing justice to minor victims of sexual abuse.
