Eighteen cases came out positive with COVID-19 in Odisha on Sunday to mark the highest single-day hike in the number since the first COVID-19 case surfaced in the state on 15th March. All these cases are from Bhubaneswar. Sixteen came in a single lot in the evening sending a shockwave across the capital city. Earlier in the day, two samples from Bhubaneswar had failed the COVID test.
With the 18 new additions, the numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased to 39 in Odisha. Thirty-two of them are from Bhubaneswar alone.
However, the government has asked the people of Bhubaneswar not to be panic. Bhubaneswar has about 30 COVID positive cases. Most of them are linked to the first confirmed cases in Surya Nagar and Bomikhal. Almost all cases of Bomikhal are from one family. Both the clusters sealed and put under active surveillance. In the afternoon, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy mitigated the fear of community outbreak of corona in Odisha. His statement followed enthusiastic public participation in the nine-minute-light-at-nine: the vow to fight out corona when the news of 16 positive corona cases broke.
The Health and Family Welfare department tweeted, 16 more COVID positive cases confirmed in Bhubaneswar. Fifteen cases are from the Bomikhal area, which had been sealed after three such cases appeared from there on Friday.

As of Sunday’s closing report, there are 39 COVID positive cases from 1888 sample tests in Odisha. Active cases count 37 while two patients have recovered.
The first COVID patient appeared in Odisha on 15th March and the number touched 5 in the next 15 days before it registered an eight-fold increase in the next five days.
