The Supreme Court of India gave the investigating responsibility of the Vyapam case to CBI. The direction came from the apex court during the process of hearing of petitions on Vyapam on Thursday. The court however asked CBI to present its view on monitoring aspect of the investigation in two weeks time. In another significant development of the day the court has issued notice to the center and the state government on the petitions of removal of Ram Naresh Yadav as the governor of MP.
The petitioners- Congress leader Digvijay Singh being at the helm, have sought the Supreme Court’s intervention to bring in CBI to probe into the case. The Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan too had made move towards getting CBI in the investigating job of the Vyapam scam.
The CBI, along with the scam will also investigate into the 40 odd mysterious deaths of the Vyapam scam linked persons.
The affairs of Vyavshayik Pratisthan Mandal (Vyapam) the admission and recruitment agency of MP government have been scandalously under question mark for the last ten years. The organization has channeled scores of admissions into medical and engineering courses in Madhya Pradesh in dubious way. Thousands of crores of rupees has been alleged to be involved in the affairs. Names of persons stationed at the higher rung of the systems having notorious role in the business are coming afore. The scam became intense after the investigation team found 23 accused or witness in the Vyapam case were dead.
Since the scam broke in July 2013 the assignment of investigation has been with the STF. A month later Jabalpur High court took the case under its monitoring by constituting SIT. The case now will be handed over to the CBI with the direction of the Supreme Court today. As of now, STF has booked about 2000 persons including a former Higher Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma.
