If MCL’s words can be believed, Talcher will soon have the awaited Medical College. The Public Sector coal mining company in this connection has released a press note on Sunday reiterating its commitment.
“Construction of Medical College and Hospital in Talcher Coal fields will start soon” says the company through the release as it adds that all formalities in this regard have been completed. National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) will take up the construction work, declares the company.
The second best performing subsidiary of the Coal India Limited (CIL), MCL honoring its social responsibility will start the work of the medical college and Hospital in Talcher. The press release from the company came on heal of meeting held in Talcher to give force to the demand for the medical college.
MCL will spend Rs 492 cr in the project of a hundred seated medical college and hospital with 500 beds. The project was announced in 2008 by the then coal minister Santosh Bagadia only to be stashed in the back burner since then though dead line for academic activities in the college was set to be commenced from 2015-16.
The current inertness of the project is generating anguish among the people of Talcher. Various organizations in Talcher are threatening to go for economic blockade if the project
