BPCL and OUAT join hand for straw based bio-fuel in Odisha.

Bhubaneswar: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd is goimg to work with OUAT the premier Agriculture University in Odisha for developing bio-fuel from paddy straw.

Both the institutions have signed a Memorandum of Agreement on Sunday in Bhubaneswar in this regard. Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan witnessed the occasion.

BPCL will contribute Rs 5 crore in the project of which Rs 3 crore will be for creating the BPCL bio-fuel chair in university and the rest Rs 2 crore will be for research and development works.

The bio-fuel chair in the premier agricultural university will work to exploit the fuel potential of the 100 tons of paddy straw that Odisha produces annually.

BPCL ‘Biofuel Chair’ will conduct research for screening of best agricultural crops and develop new agricultural varieties which can yield more cellulose content, Dharmendra Pradhan mentioned in his twitter platform

This initiative for biofuel exploration in straw by BPCL is in compliance with the policy decision of the Central Government of blending 10% bio-ethanol in petrol and diesel.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pradhan proposed OUAT to establish an Agri-Business Incubation Centre in the campus to promote students, farmers and young entrepreneurs in Odisha.  He also urge state government to extend all cooperation for the establishment of Incubation Centre at OUAT.
