Agnipath Scheme: Call for Bhart Bandh but Government goes ahead with Agnipath, Indian army issues notification for Agniveer recruitment.

Bhubaneswar: Aggressive demonstrations, in India, against the Agnipath-recruitment-model, refuse to relent, even after appeals, announcements, and clarifications from the government and services.

There is a call for Bharat Bandh by some anonymous organizations today, leading the demonstrations into the fifth day. The protesters have burnt down 60 coaches in Bihar. Railways properties worth Rs 700 crore were destroyed, as the department claims.

States are on high alert for the Bharat Bandh program today, with a heavy security arrangement.

We’ve done full preparations in view of Bharat Bandh. There is peace and there is no effect of Bharat Bandh. If anyone tries to vandalise/arson public property then action will be taken against that person. People can protest peacefully, says Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, DM, Patna, a news agency reports.

Reports of similar preparedness are also coming from Punjab, Telangana, and West Bengal.

In the meantime, the Indian Army has issued notification for the Agniveer recruitment rallies, scheduled to start in July. The Indian Air force is starting its recruitment under Agniveer scheme from 24 June, and the Indian Navy from 25 June.

Yesterday, in joint presser, the three services have clearly refused any consideration for the violent protesters in the Agniveer selection, and denied the rollback of Agnipath.

Earlier, the Home Ministry and Defence Ministry have announced reservation quotas for the Agniveers  in their respective organisations to address the fear of job insecurity among the Agniveers after the end of their four-year term in service.
