Titli Cyclone: Titli becoming severe, likely to hit Odisha Andhra coast tomorrow morning. State Machinery is ready to take on.

The cyclonic storm Titli has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over west- central Bay of Bengal threatening to cause extremely heavy rainfall and gusting to 145kmph over coastal Odisha.

As per the latest information from the Indian Meteorological Department.(IMD) by 5.30 AM of October 10,  it is located at about 370 km south- Southeast of Gopalpur, Odisha and 310 km southeast of Kalingpatnam, Andhra Pradesh in the Bay of Bengal and is moving towards Odisha Andhra Coast at 10 km an hour.IMD predicts Titli to make landfall between Gopalpur and Kalingapatnam at sometime tomorrow morning. .

“It is very likely to intensify further into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 18 hours.” predicts the IMD. The meteorological event is feared to cause extremely heavy falls over isolated places in coastal Odisha and heavy to very heavy rainfall over few places there, for which the IMD has issued r d alert for the region.

On wind warning the IMD says, “It is very likely to increase gradually becoming 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph from 10th October 2018 night onwards along & off south Odisha & adjoining districts of north Andhra Pradesh coasts and 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph along & off north Odisha and remaining districts of north Andhra Pradesh coasts.”

Taking the cyclonic threat into consideration Odisha government has directed the district authorities in the coast to stay prepared for the challenge. Schools, colleges and all educational institutions in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati,puri and Jagatsinghpur have been ordered close from October 10.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) units have already been deployed in the district of Gajapati,Puri, Kendrapara, Nayagarh, Bhadrak and Jajpur while 7 units of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force(ODRAF) have also been placed in other districts expected to be under the cyclonic effect.
