
Center will provide Rs 401.94crore to Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur for its permanent campus. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved this proposal on Wednesday along with that of Six other IIMs at Amritsar, Bodhgaya, Siramur, Nagpur, Vishakhpatnam and Jammu.
The proposal cleared for the establishment and operationalisation of these IIMS and their recurring expenditure amounts 3775.42 crore, as per the government statement. Expenditure on construction head has been earmarked Rs 2804.09 crore.
As per the official release, each of these IIMs will construct an area of 60384 Sqm, which will have complete infrastructural facilities for 600 students in each IIM. Construction work will be complete by June 2021.
The Seven IIMs established in 2015-16 and 2016-17 are functioning in transit campuses at present. The Sambalpur IIM is temporarily based in a state of the art building in Jyoti Vihar; Burla.Site for Its permanent campus has been selected at Basantpur near Sambalpur city.
The release mentions that IIM Amritsar will get Rs348.31 crore while IIM Bodha Gaya will get Rs 411.72 crore for construction of campus. Similarly this amount for IIM Nagpur and IIM Simaur will be Rs 379.67 crore and Rs 392.51 crore respectively. IIM Visha khapatnam will get Rs445.00 crore and IIM Jammu will get Rs 424.93 crore.
Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development & enterpreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan through his twitter post has expressed his “Sincere gratitude to the Union Cabinet chaired by Hon. PM Shri Narendra Modi for the approval of establishment and operationalization of permanent campus of seven new Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) including IIM Sambalpur in Odisha.”
