Soumya Ranjan Patnaik joins BJD as a “tremendous asset” to Naveen Patnaik.

Bhubaneswar: And Soumya Ranjan Patnaik found his new political abode in Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Mr. Soumya Ranjan Patnaik is an ace player in the media field and had earned a reputaion of being a voacal critic of BJD government in Odisha and its leader Naveen Patnaik as well. He is now the “tremendous asset” to BJD. With his joining his political organisation Aama Odisha Party aslo get absorbed in BJD.


Speculation of Soumya Ranjan’s joining BJD was running rife for quite some time now till he finally became part of the party today in the Naveen Niwas. In his post joining address to the media he said that Biju Patnaik, 26 years back had offerd him to work together and he was happy to be in the party that is named after him.


Naveen Patnaik the chief of BJD said, “I am very glad that Soumya Ranjan Patnaik is joining the Biju Janata Dal today. I am sure he will be a tremendous asset to the party,”


Soumya Ranjan Patnaik is associated with quite a few movements in Odiha of which the ones for the farmers right and chit fund depositors are prominent. He also spearheads the Bhasha Andolan, the language movement in Odisha. These movements are conspicuous against the ruling BJD in the state. His role in these movements in the time to come has become subjects of speculation after Soumya’s becoming part of the ruling party.


He however has said,. “I will continue my work for resolving issues of duped chit fund investors and farmers of the state,”

Soumya Ranjan Patnaik had represented Bhubaneswar Loksabha constituency in Congress ticket in 1996 and in subsequent time he shifted to BJP for some time before he returned back to Congress and was expelled from the party in 2013. After the expulsion he had set up his own political organisation Ama odisha Party. The party is likely to merge in BJd after an official announcement soon.

Achyuta Samant another stalwart in the social field also joined BJD today.
