Police puts the Koraput minor –gang-rape case in Red-Flag category, does not rule out Naxal angle.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 11: The minor-girl gang-rape case in Koraput yesterday, for the Odisha police has become a case of utmost importance. Odisha Police has taken it under Red-Flag category.

Odisha DGP R P Sharma said to the press in Bhubaneswar today that the Koraput minor gang rape was a red flag case.“A case has been registered in Pottangi police station under Sections 376 (D), 377 of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act.” said the DGP

He said,” the investigation is in full swing to find out the truth.” and promised stingent action against the perpetrators.

On the allegations of involvement of persons from security forces in the case DGP Sharma said, besides BSF, CRPF, CoBRA, and, local forces there are Naxals who use the combat uniform. Police will investigate all angles and all possibilities in the case.

A three-member team, assigned the investigation are already into the job, said the DGP and added that a team of Crime Branch and a team of Forensic from Berhamour would soon join the investigating team.

The Odisha Human Right Commission, in the mean time has intervened in the case and sought report on this case from the Home Secretary and ADG Human Right Protection cell within a week.
