On PMAYG beneficiary listing, it is the state government’s responsibility to make deserving into it, says Dharmendra

Bhubaneswar; It is the state government’s responsibility to ensure that the deserving people get the benefit under the central housing scheme, said Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan amid all the row over the irregularities in it. He said asking the villagers to point the odd man out in an Awas list is impractical.

Mr. Pradhan was replying to media queries at the sideline of a private function in Bhubaneswar on Friday. He said a poor man in a village might not feel comfortable to say against one influential co-villagers placed in the list.

In the wake of new house sanctions under PMAYG, there is a conspicuous apprehension on the purity in the distribution process in Odisha. As The previous Awas distribution exercise had been questioned with bribery and political favoritism, BJP, the main opposition in Odisha and holds power in the center, is being sought a response.

Recently the central government has sanctioned as many as 9 lakh houses to Odisha under PMAYG scheme- 6 lakh under PMAYG and 1.5 lakh under PMAYG PLUS. The BJD leaders were OK with 26-27 lakh houses for the state, said Mr. Pradhan as he added the Modi government has sanctioned 27 lakh houses. The Center has eased the eligibility criteria for the Awas scheme for Odisha. People of Odisha should thank Narendra Modi for this, he said.
