Odisha Government declares the heavy rainfall in the state as State Specified Disaster

Bhubaneswar: It has been rainng incessantly across Odisha since Thursday throwing life out of grar in some of its coastal districts.As reports of damge to life and property has started coming up the Odisha government declared it as State Specified Disaster in local context today. District administrations have been directed to take measures for relief and restoration.

By dint of the State Specified Disaster classification the concerned district administration can use the State Distaer Response Fund to carry out the works of relief and restoration of infrastructures

As many as 25 blocks in 7 coastal districts and Rayagada in Odisha have received havy rainfall measuring 160.952mm in avarage till 8 AM on Friday, noted State Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi.

Kanasa Block in Puri District recorded the maximum rain fall with 274 mm.The heavily rained blocks, as the SRC has mentioned are in the districts of Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri and Rayagada.

Puri with 153 mm rainfall happens to be the top among districts those have got heavy precipitation since Thursday afternoon. However the average rainfall during this period in Odisha reads 48.2mm. Balasore, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur are the districts those have to brace with rainfall above 100mm.

And for the next 24 hours there is no good news for those bearing the rainy woes in Odisha from the Meteorological Office.

The Met- Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain fall in the districts of coastal Odisha and very heavy rainfall in interior Odisha.
