
Bhubaneswar (16 Oct.) : Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on Monday announced an irrigation project of Rs 1250 crore for Bijepur in Bargarh.
The irrigation project with underground pipe system will be” the first of its kind” in Odisha that the Chief Minister expects it to be developed as a model project for the entire country by virtue of modern technology application.
The canal system will be named Gangadhar Meher Lift Canal System and it will have a command area of 3200 Ha- 2500 Ha in Kharif and 700 Ha in Rabi season.
As the CM described, the project would take water from Bargarh Main canal through under ground pipeline to 16 km from there the underground pipe system would conduit water to the distributing outlets for water distribution.
“Augmentation of irrigation potential has been a long standing demand of the people of Bargarh district especially the drought prone areas”.said the CM. “ In this regard we have decided to implement Bijepur Lift Canal System.”
With the by-election in Bijepur is around the corner this announcement of Nqveen Patnaik can’t escape political remarks.
BJD is trying to influence the voters in Bijepur by the announcement, said BJP Spokesman Sajjan Sharma.
Bijepur by-poll is seen as a crucial contest before the general elections in 2019 to assess the positions of the political parties against their claims.
