A severe road accident at Jarapada in Angul killed four persons and left three critically injured. The accident took place when an ambulance collided with a Gas tanker at about 6 in the morning on the NH-55 near Jarapada, 20 kilometres from its district headquarter Angul.

The ambulance was heading towards SCB medical Cuttack carrying one patient and five others. The patient died on the spot. Two of his attendants and the ambulance driver also met their pathetic end there. The local police and fire service personnel rescued the injured persons and sent them to the Angul District Hospital for treatment.  Subsequently, they were moved to the SCB Medical College Cuttack. Three bodies were also brought out, but they faced a tough challenge while removing the driver’s body that was badly trapped behind the steering wheel.

The four-lane NH-55 was nearly empty in the morning at that spot when the accident took place. Who hit who is speculative, but it was a massive one. The ambulance was squeezed.

The tanker driver is at large.
