Fight against COVID-19:Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan monitors free, fare and fast delivery of Ujjawal cylinders

Bhubaneswar: The government of India is in action to see the Ujjwala customers get their free LPG cylinders appropriately during the adversity of COVID-19 pandemic compounded with the lockdown. Leading from the front, Union petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, on Thursday, prompted the supply system to work diligently for the objective. There are 8 crore Ujjwala beneficiaries to get free cooking gas cylinders over the next three months under a government welfare package for the poor. The package called PM Garib Kalyan Yojana is for the poor to cope with the economic hardship due to curbs.

In a video discussion with the district in -charges of the petroleum companies, Minister Pradhan suggested speeding up the refill delivery service in a targeted way. He said free gas cylinder is an important part of the Prime Minister’s package. So, “there should be no compromise on doorstep delivery”, he added, while cautioning against asking extra charge for the service. However, he advised not to ignore service to the regular customers, though he acknowledged the Ujjwala service a priority.

As per official information, 2.66 crore people from the Ujjwala list has got free cylinders, while 3.05 crores have applied for free cylinders in the first three weeks of April.
