COVID-19 cases cross 200 with 34 new cases on thursday

The number of COVID-19 cases in Odisha crossed 200 marks on Thursday, with the addition of 34 new cases. It is the highest single-day spike- mainly due to migrant laborers coming back from Surat. Of the 34 corona hosts, discovered in the day, 30 are from Surat.

The vicious virus opened its account today in Mayurbhanj with 4 attacks. The Northern District of Odisha has managed to stay safe till the four persons, returned from Surat, tested positive on Thursday. Besides, the virus revisited the capital Bhubaneswar on Thursday after 10 days. Since the first COVID case with a Surat link emerged on May 3, the source has contributed 39 cases in a total of 70 in the last 5 days. As Gujarat has developed to a highly infected state carrying nearly 6000 cases, people influx from there is a potential threat to Odisha’s Corona situation. Nearly five thousand Odias have returned from Surat to Ganjam alone in the last few days by special trains and buses. The statewide figure could be much higher. However, the overall people returned to Odisha from different states, in the last few days, count 35,540.

As on May 7, there are 155 active cases in Odisha, 62 have recovered and two died.
