Bhubaneswar: The state headquarters of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) in Bhubaneswar witnessed all the hustle and bustle on Sunday to mark a two year high in intesity after it got a new Chief in Niranjan Patnaik. The party is bracing up for a” winning battle” in the general election next year.
“Those who think we are fighting a losing battle will see that we are fighting a winning battle” said Mr. Patnaik in his maiden media address as the president of OPCC for the second term as a gesture of confidence.
The first day of Niranjan Patnaik, in his new assignment was studded with hectic spree of meetings with party functionaries, legislature party members and wings of youth, women and students after he paid visit to lord jagannath in the morning with his new team and Jitendra Singh the Odisha in-charge of his party.
The waning Congress in Odisha had demonstrated a massive show of strength on Saturday while welcoming Niranjan Patnaik.
Midst all the enthusiasm in the party Mr Patnaik has realised the toughness of his task as the leader of the party that is going through the worst phase in its political course.
He said, this is the most difficult time when he had been given the responsibility to lead the party, yet he asserted,” Congress will rise, Odisha will smile.”
We will restructure the party from the grass root level, said the new President as he admitted during his interaction with the media that for some mistakes by the party in the last few years people of Odisha had distanced themselves from Congress,” we accept the mistakes and we will corrrect those.” he said.
He said indiscipline in the party will not be tolerated,
Change of guard in the OPCC has been a talking point for the last few months particularly after the drubbing of Congress in the rural elections last year and in the Bijepur election this year before Rahul Gandhi finally chose Niranjan Pattnaik to replace Praad Harichandan as the state president of Congress on Thursday.
