BJP Relies On EX-MLA Radharani Panda for the Brajrajnagar By-Poll

Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finally chose to go to the Brajrajnagar by-election under Radharani Panda. Ms. Panda, who had represented the assembly constituency in 2014, was found to have the experience as the edge over other ticket aspirants of the national party. However, she had lost the 2019 assembly election in Brajrajnagar to Kishore Mohanty of BJD. Kishore Mohanty’s death in December last year has led to the by-election scheduled on May 31.

BJP happens to have beaten the ruling BJD and the national party Congress in declaring its candidate first. BJD is struggling to chose between Alaka Mohanty, wife of late Kishore Mohanty and Dipali Das,daughter of health Minister Naba Kishore Das. Congress is likely to field its senior leader Kishore Patel.

Two BJD political power camps- one of Naba Kishore Das and the other of Late Kishore Mohanty, are competing to get their respective candidates in the field as their power authentication. The competition has hindered several meetings to finalise a candidate. Only two days are remaining for the last date of the nomination.

Brajrajnagar, the assembly constituency in the Jharsuguda District is going to poll on May 31, and the counting on June 3.
