Biju Janata Dal (BJD) the party ruling Odisha had promised a peaceful hartal for Monday, but the view in Bhubaneswar today was anything but peaceful.
The crowds with BJD scarf, headband carrying party flags took control over the public roads in capital city since 7AM and staged a show of vandalism for the next six hours. Students and office goers were forcefully blocked. Even a hospital bound ambulance was not spared. A lady from Khurda was driving her sick father in law to a hospital but met with the mob’s rage.
BJD was up against the central government for the current hiked fuel price.
Common people of the state have disliked such violent demonstration by the workers of the ruling party. Voice of disapproval has surfaced from the party inside itself.
Senior BJD leader Baijayant panda has been loud in his reactions through a series of twitter posts. He has dissociated from that mode of show and has condemned the” anti people hooliganism.’
This isn’t the party I assisted NP to found 20 yrs ago. I am ashamed and angered by this. Biju Babu wd’ve been too, reads his twitter post.
He tweets, this is just anti-people hooliganism. I dissociate from &condemn this.
Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also condemned the ruling party for its workers’ “anarchism and hooliganism.” And has demanded “strong action against those who have created anarchy in the state.”
Mr Pradhan through his twitter post says,” Because of anger on me, the ruling party should refrain from harassing the common people even the women going on road.”
However BJD has tried to ignore the violence reports and claimed that people has spontaneously supported the Hartal.
