
BHUBANESWAR: The former AG Ashok Mohanty was released from the judicial custody after the Khordha district sessions court granted him bail today against a bond of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties. The court has also asked the former AG to depose before the CBI every Sunday.
The Ex- AG Ashok Moahanty’s fate was left to be decided today in the Khordha District Session judge court following a direction from the Odisha High Court. Askok Mohanty was in judicial custody as the special CJM CBI court had rejected his bail plea on Wednesday prompting the former AG to challenge the decision in the High court.
The CBI has arrested the former AG on 22 Sept for his alleged link with Artha Tatwa(AT) the ponzy trader in CBI scanner for financial fraud. A land deal between Ashok Mohanty and the AT Chief Pradip Sethy is said to be the link to which CBI has questioned for propriety. However Ashok Mohanty had denied the link though he has admitted the land deal and defended it as being fine as per his conscience.
Ashok Mohanty’s arrest has moved his legal fraternity to come up for his defence. The Odisha Bar Association observed day long strike on 24th Sept and is planning on its future move. As the apex association of legal service provider in the state claims the arrest of the Ex-AG is violation of laid down procedure.
