558 types of medicines are now in Niramaya fold.

Government has taken 59 more medicines in the fold to make them available for free distribution under Niramaya, the Free Drug Distribution Scheme in Odisha. With this, number of medicines under Niramaya has increased to 558. In 2016-17 it was 449.

Thie decision was taken on Monday in a review meeting of Odisha State Medicine Corporation, (OSMC)

As per another decision, The Chief District Medical Officers have been authorised to purchase medicines locally as per the requirement. Government has sanctioned Rs 58 Cr for this head.

OSMC supplies 316 types of medicines to Medical College and hospitals and 301 types of medicines to the District Hospitals. Community Health Centers and Primary Health centers get 294 and 191 types of medicines respectively from OSMC under Niramaya. Rs 254 cr have been provided to OSMC for the supply of medicines.

Odisha Chief Secretary after the meeting directed the health Secretary to supervise and monitor that medicines under Niramaya are prescribed and distributed.

He ordered the doctors in the government run medicals to prescribe medicines available under Niramaya.

Mr. Padhi advised to run awareness campaign on the quality and effectiveness of the Niramaya medicines.

Niramaya is the Free Drug Distribution Scheme that the government had launched in 2015 Medicines under the scheme are available in government hospitals in Odisha.
