UAE has assured India of additional LPG supplies to help it meet the rising demand due to the free-LPG scheme launched in the wake of the COVID-19 induced lockdown in the country. Union Petroleum and Natural gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan have mentioned about this through a tweet.
As per the tweet, Mr. Pradhan had a meeting with Sultan Ahmed Jabar, the MoS UAE, about this matter. They agreed to work together to take on the arising challenges out of the COVID-19 pandemic in the energy sector.
At my request, Dr Jaber assured me of additional LPG supplies from @AdnocGroup to meet free supply of three LPG refills during April-June period to over 8 crore Ujjwala (PMUY) beneficiaries as part of the economic package announced by the Government.

Since the government of India is providing free LPG riffles, one per month, to the needy till June, there is a likely increase in LPG demand, as bout 8 crore PMUY beneficiaries in India will claim the benefit under the scheme. The PMUY beneficiaries have started getting the Advance Retail Selling price in their accounts from the oil companies. They can use the amount to purchase their gas cylinder from the retailer.
As a part of the Rs 1.7 lakh crore economic package, the central government has promised free LPG refills through PMUY. Thus Mr. Pradhan calls the PMUY to emerge as a key player in the fight against the Corona epidemic.
He has appreciated the dedication of his team starting from the delivery boys to the OMC officials during the lockdown. They have ensured the uninterrupted supply of LPG cylinders braving the pandemic. They provide 65 lakh cylinders daily, said Mr. Pradhan.
The government of India has implemented an all-India lockdown for 21 days since March 25 to check Coronavirus spread. An expected economic hardship due to the restriction has made the government come out with financial help.
