NIA arrests LeT terrorist handler of Kendrapara from Delhi airport

National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested one Habibur Rehaman, what NIA claims a terrorist handler, originally a resident of Kendrapara of Odisha. He was picked from indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi when he landed there from Riyadh. Habibur presently resides in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

NIA through a press release on Monday claimed that Habibur Rehman is one of the handlers of Laskar-e- Tayiba (LeT) terrorist Saikh Abdul Naeem alias Nomi who was arrested in Nov 2017 and had Habibur Rahman as one of his 10 co-accused in the NIA charge-sheet. Since then Habibur Rahman was carrying a non bailable warrant against him.

Habibur used to arrange funds hideouts and shelters for Naeem to carry out terrorist activities in India on the directions of Le T commander Amzad alias Rehan who is based in Pakistan.

Naeem was tasked to identify locations where terrorist attacks could be carried out. For this purpose Naeem assumed different fake identities and visited different states including Jammu andKashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh and did reconnaissance of possible targets for terrorist attacks.

Naeem was first arrested in 2007 while trying to infiltrate two Pakistani and one Kashmiri terrorist into India from Bangladesh but he had escaped in 2014 on his way from Mharashtra to Kolkata for court attendance before he was caught again in Nov 2017.

Terrorist links in Odisha had surfaced on Dec 15, 2015 when Delhi police arrested Abdur Rehman from Jagatpur in Cuttack.

Again in October 2015 one Akhtar Hussain of Kisannagar was also caught in NIA scanner but the anti terror agency did not find enough evidence to hold him.
