Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the party ruling Odisha hit at Delhi today to make their shout on farmer’s issue. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was there leading the attack. All his cabinet colleagues, office-bearers of his party and workers contributed their voice in the shout.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan of BJP said this as an act of “hiding face” by the ruling BJD on the farmer’s issue whose responsibility lies with the state. While State Congress President Niranjan Patnaik termed it as a picnic of Rs 52 lakh.
CM Naveen Patnaik said they were forced to hold the demonstration in the national capital in the “freezing cold” as their repeatedly call to the center for farmer’s interest were not heeded.
“I have requested the central government several times to increase the Minimum Support Price ( MSP) of paddy. Odisha assembly passed a resolution and sent the center to hike the MSP of paddy by one and half a times. Assembly Committee tried to meet the Central Government but nothing happened.” said Naveen Patnaik.
BJP after coming to power has forgotten its promise to the farmers, alleged the Odisha CM and added that it was the center’s responsibility to fix the Minimum Support Price of food grain and to implement the Swaminatan Committee recommendations. Central Government can’t escape from this responsibility.
He said his government has introduced a “very progressive programme” called KALIA for the farmers costing Rs 10,000 crore that would benefit 92 percent of the farmers.
Union Minister Dhrmendra Pradhan calling the event a “farce” said, “agriculture is a state subject. Mr. Chief Minister Cannot escape from it.” “He has to answer,” said Mr. Pradhan “why the farmers are not getting the stipulated price of Rs 1750 for paddy.”
