At 8.02 AM IST Mangalyan, the ISRO spacecraft entered into the orbit of the Mars and India inscribed history in the space exploration to which the elated Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “we have achieved a near impossible.” as he congratulated the ISRO for making India proud.
This achievement is significant from many points of view. India could do it in its maiden attempt on the backdrop of “odds stacked against” there is only 42 percent of success rate of such missions. Even America and Russia don’t have this record. Two Asian giants China and Japan have failed in their only attempts so far, thus India at present is the first and only Asian country to boast for this feat. With just 76 Million USD expenditure Mangalyaan or Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) happens to be cheapest project in this category.
The fascination of Indian mind for space dares the ISRO scientist “to reach out to the unknown” said the Prime Minister. In spite of limitations of resource the Indian scientists made the space journey of 650 Million Km successful by virtue of “their confidence and their determination”. A pan Indian indigenously made effort led the project to success at very low cost. India’s own PSLV carried the shuttle to the Martian orbit, and “We have gone beyond the limitation of human enterprise and imagination” said Narendra Modi who was present with the ISRO scientist at Sriharikota to witness the historic moment.
“The success of our space program is a shining example of what we are capable of as a nation.” as he added “Our space program has been an example of achievement, which inspires the rest of us to strive for excellence ourselves.” And Modern India must continue playing this leading role of ‘Jagad-guru Bharat’.
