INX MEDIA: CHIDAMBARAM’S BAIL PLEA ORDER RESERVED FOR SEPT 5

For the former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, it is till Sept 5 when he will know about his pre-arrest bail request. The Supreme Court bench, after four days of the hearing, on Thursday reserved the decision for September 5. However, the bench has extended his interim bail till then. The ED will have to wait for the court’s decision on that day before its next move on Mr. Chidambaram.

The ED is seeking remand of Mr. Chidambaram in a money laundering case related to INX-MEDIA.

Mr. Chidambaram is in the CBI remand since his dramatic arrest on August 22 in two successive terms. His second remand term expires on Friday.

The ED claims for Mr. Chidambaram’s custodial interrogation without protection- umbrella against arrest.

The Court asked the ED to submit the documents, on which it opposes Chidambaram’s plea, in a closed envelope with authenticated seal.

Both the parties had a phase of spar over the covered-document in the court, but finally, the ED prevailed.

In a separate plea, Chidambaram has challenged his custodial interrogation by CBI. The Court fixed Sept 2 for hearing the case.
