From Kerala Flood to triple talaq and remembering Atal Bihari Vajpayee and encouragiung Indian athletes inJakarta Asiad and others highlights in Narendra Modi’s 47th Mann Ki Baat

This was the 47th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat on Sunday today. In his typical Radio Address the Prime Minister shares his views on immediate events.His address today on the day of Rakhya Bandhan is not a big deviation. Kerala flood and Demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee being the two shocking experiences for the country now Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his feeling on these two, besides he spoke about social justice of the depresseds and Muslim women among others as he greeted the people of India on the occasion of Rakhya Bandhan

The highlights as follows

On Kerala Flood he said, in today’s pressing, hard times, the entire Nation is with Kerala, and assured the grief-stricken families that in this moment of suffering& misery, a hundred & twenty five crore Indians stand by them, shoulder to shoulder.

Disasters unfortunately leave behind a trail of destruction. But one gets to witness facets of humanity, humaneness during disasters said the Prime Minister and acknowledged people’s contribution to bring life back to normalcy in the disaster hit places in the country. He admired the forces for their relief and rescue works in Kerala.

Modi remembered former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his contribution in shaping the political culture of India through the 91st Amendment Act,2003 which eventually brought about two important changes in India’s politics.  First one is that the size of the cabinet in states was restricted to 15% of the total seats in the state Assembly. And the second one is that the limit under the Anti Defection Law was enhanced from one-thirds to two-thirds. Besides, clear guidelines were defined to disqualify the defector.

He welcomed the debate afoot on the topic of simultaneously holding elections for the lok sabha and the State Assemblies as a sign of democracy.

He thanked all the Parliamentarians for making the monsoon session of the Parliament a productive session

On triple talaq Modi said, I assure the Muslim women that the whole country stands by them to provide them social justice. The Triple Talaq Bill has been passed by the Lok Sabha although it could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha

Modi extended his best wishes to the medal achievers in the Jakarta Asian Games and recognised positive indications in it that most of the medal winners’ hail from small villages and towns.

He appealed the people of India to take care of their fitness.
