Essar commissions Rs 6000 Cr pellet complex in Odisha

Essar Steel on Thursday commissioned its integrated pellet complex in Odisha with an investment of Rs 6000 Cr. the “state of the art complex” is comprised of a 6 million ton per annum(MTPA) iron pellet plant in Paradeep, a iron ore beneficiation facility at Dabuan in Keonjhar and a connective pipe line of 253Km to carry the slurry.

According to Rajendra Mittal CEO Essar steel Odisha the pellet plant will use low grade iron ore fines to produce “value added products”. The slurry pipeline with carrying capacity of 12MTPA will be completely free from the pressure of road and railway transportation besides it will have very little impact on environment, claims the company authority.

With the commissioning of the Odisha Complex Essar Steel became the largest pellet producing company in India as its annual output of pellet is enhanced to 14 Million ton. Essar Steel’s Vizag pellet Complex produces 8 Milliom ton Per annum.
The pellets will be used by Essar Steel’s own steel units with combined capacity of 10 MTPA. The surplus will be given to other steel manufacturers with priority to manufacturers in Odisha. The undergoing expansion plan of its Paradeep pellet unit is likely to be commissioned in a year thereby enhancing its capacity to 12 MTPA.

Chairman of Essar steel Sashi Ruia in praise of this achievement said.” It is a matter of pride that Indian engineers have delivered this challenging project keeping the balance between growth and sustainability.” As he refers his company always puts a lot of emphasis on sustainable development.

Thanking the government of Odisha Mittal said “This has been possible only with persistent support and industry friendly policies of government of Odisha.”
Essar steel is hopeful of expediting its steel projects in Odisha. It hopes speedy completion of the acquisition of 2500 acres of land allotted to it.
