Asiad 2018: Dutee claims Silver in 200m also, second Indian to win two individual medals in Asiad

On Wednesday this is Dutee Chand again! Silver in the 200m from Jakarta Asiad! On Sunday she had clinched her first Silver in the 100m dash.Today she clocked 23.20 in the200m final for her second Silver and made it to the exclusive club of Indian athletes to join the Great P T Usha who have two individual medals in their name from Asiads.

The diminutive Odia girl put her step into sports to express herself while fighting with familial deprivation during her early age. She won there and set out for this big one only to meet a bigger obstruction on the way posing threat to her career and to her very gender identity.

It was in 2014; she was all set to be to Glasgow Commonwealth games as a part of the Indian contigent when she was denied the right to compete as a female athlete.Excessive Testosterone level in her blood was the cited reason as per the hyperandrogen policy of the  International  Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF).

A ban was slapped on her and she was left to fight for her career, for her passion and even for her gender identity. For the next two years she was pitted against humiliating questions from all around. They questioned if she was a man. Her talent, her hard work all were disregarded for hyperandrogenism.

She took the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sports in laussane that led to amend the hyperandrogen rule for the female athlete in 2015. The new rule allowed her to back on to the track.
