India on Thursday at 11.11 AM test fired the Agni-1 missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at the Wheeler Island in Bhadrak. “It was a perfect launch” for the Made in India surface to surface ballistic missile that has a strike range of 700 Km and one ton nuclear warhead carrying capacity.
The operation was part of the regular training exercise of the Army. “The entire exercise was conducted in a perfect manner and the trail was totally successful” said a DRDO spokesman.
The Agni-1that has already been inducted into the Indian army is a short ranged ballistic missile of the Agni series of the DRDO. It is 15 meter long and it weighs 12 ton, and have 700Km strike range against 2000 Km range of the Agni-II. The advance system laboratory of DRDO has developed the missile in collaboration with Defence Research Development laboratory and Research Center Imarat while Bharat Dynamics has integrated it.
DRDO had launched the Agni project in 1983 as a part of country’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP)
