The Central government will provide Rs 3338.22 crore of additional assistance to Odisha for post- Fani rehabilitation program.
A High-Level Committee met under Home Minister Amit Shah on 19 August, has approved the amount. The HLC has approved total Rs 4432.10crore for Odisha, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh from National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF). Besides Odisha’s share of Rs 3338.22 crore, the drought-affected Karnataka will get Rs 1029.39 crore while Rs 64.49 crore will go to Himachal Pradesh.
As per an official statement, Center had released Rs 304.87 crore to Odisha from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) in advance on 29th April before the cyclone Fani hit Odisha on 3rd May. Odisha had got another Rs 1000 crore from the center as per PM Modi’s announcement during his visit to Odisha after Fani. The center had also provided ex gratia sum of Rs 2 lakh to the nearest kin of the deceased and Rs 5,000 to the seriously injured from the PM relief fund.
The statement notes that the additional assistance is this additional assistance is over and above the funds released by Centre to the States in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) already placed at the disposal of States. During 2018-19, Centre had released Rs 9,658 crore to all states and during 2019-20, till date Centre has released Rs 6,104 crore to 24 States from SDRF.
There is report that PM Modi himself has informed Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik about the assistance which is said to be the highest as compensation Odisha has ever got. Odisha government had sought Rs 5227 crore as compensation from the center.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has thanked PM Modi and the High-Level Committee for granting the additional assistance to Odisha and has expressed quick restoration of people’s livelihood affected by Fani.
Through a series of tweets, Mr. Pradhan notes that the Modi government is committed towards the people of Odisha; it is committed to bringing back the smile on the face of the people of Odisha that they have lost in the devastation.
